What is an IBCLC

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a healthcare professional who holds the highest credential as a specialist in the clinical management of breastfeeding. IBCLCs are credentialed by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.  Some items an IBCLC can assist with are:

– Prenatal counseling regarding factors that may affect breastfeeding

– Education about practices that may affect breastfeeding

– Positioning and latch

– Concerns about milk supply or milk transfer

– Nipple or breast pain

– Lip and tongue ties

– Milk Expression and storage

– Strategies for returning to work or school

– Introduction of Solids

– Weaning

– And more

I'm so thankful for the knowledge Heather shared with me about lactation. She helped me through some latching issues and encouraged me when I wanted to give up. Without Heather's support, I would not have had the beautiful 2 1/2 year journey that I did with my son. I highly recommend Heather for her knowledge, compassion, professionalism, and encouragement.

Heather is amazing and the best part is, if she doesn't know an answer she will find one. She is patient and truly advocates for you. My breastfeeding journey is beautiful and as with any journey worth traveling, marred with a bit of battle. She helped not only with the early days of breastfeeding but also transitioning to solids, weaning, going back to nursing, weaning again. She is there every step of the way.

Heather has been helpful beyond measure. She has supported me in reaching my breastfeeding goals with two of my children. We are so grateful for her. She is such an asset to mothers and babies.
Nicole
Heather is very knowledgeable with breastfeeding and all that goes with it. She will look things up if she doesn't know and responds quickly. She's friendly and wants what's best for both mom and baby.

I meet Heather during the summer of 2016 as I was preparing to begin my 2nd journey as a breastfeeding momma with my 2nd son, Colton. My 1st son, Christopher had a short-term relationship with breastfeeding that lasted only 4 months, for which I was determined to change with my second-born. My search for support began with FB groups where I sought opinions and resources. I met Heather Evans during this search and she was quick to provide support. Heather was one of the moderators for a Breastfeeding support group through Facebook. On numerous occasions, Heather was available for questions, one on one support and even provided guidance through the crucial transitional period from breast milk to solids. I can confidently say that my second son was exclusively breastfeed throughout his first year of life. Heather was instrumental in supporting me as a breastfeeding momma, person and mother. I feel, without her kindness and support that I would not have the same success today.
